Doctrine Divides…and Right Doctrine Divides Rightly.  There is a demarcation between what is false and what is true but now, as always,  itching ears and false doctrines are prevalent.  One of the problems we face today, that past generations did not, is the proliferation of social media, television, and the internet that allows lies to spread and affect more people quicker than ever before.

False Doctrine is Deadly

The itching ears and false doctrines epidemic includes those that only hear what they want and the teachers, preachers, evangelists, and pastors that give them what their sinful hearts desire.   I am quite sure, positive in fact, that they will stand before the Great Judge and HE will say depart from me ye workers of iniquity ( Matthew 7:23). 

Itching Ears and FAlse Doctrines -the Symptoms Involved

I came across a good article today outlining 8 symptoms that accompany false doctrine and thought I would share it with you.  Below is a small excerpt at what you will find:

Many things combine to make the present inroad of false doctrine peculiarly dangerous.

1. There is an undeniable zeal in some of the teachers of error: their “earnestness” makes many think they must be right.

2. There is a great appearance of learning and theological knowledge: many fancy that such clever and intellectual men must surely be safe guides.

They Must Be Scratched

The Scriptures tell us about the itching ears and false doctrines that will come when people will no longer abide sound teachings:

2 Timothy 4:3

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

The teachers are only a symptom of the problem…..I firmly believe that such teachers are a judgment of God upon a sinful and rebellious people.  When they no longer, even in the face of the Truth and against their historical moorings, follow the foundational principles of the Word of God but follow their own lusts, God will send teachers to lead them on their way.

We must be on guard, we must be aware, and we must be steadfast in our proclamation of the Truth.  We are obligated commanded to spread the Gospel everywhere we go and to use the Word for instruction, reproof, doctrine, and instruction in righteousness ( 2 Timothy 3:16 ).

If you don’t know the Word how will you know what is True?    How will you disciple others?  How will you stand upon the firm foundation and declare that there is salvation in none other that Jesus Christ?

Stop the itching ears and false doctrines by applying the balm of Truth to those ears around you.
